Summer Kitchen Crew Member-Promise Camp

Promise Camp is a highly relational, Christ-centered, residential summer camp.  Campers range between 7 and 17 years of age and are frequently from unchurched, single-parent families, and from various cultural backgrounds. The camp program is divided into 6 one-week sessions.   Family Guidance offers ten days of on-site paid training as well as supervision and assistance throughout the camp.

Position Summary:  The kitchen crew member is an integral part of the daily operation of the camp.  He or she will aid in the preparation, service, and cleanup of all training and camping meals and snacks.

The Position Requires:

• A devoted relationship and mature walk with Jesus Christ.
• Satisfactory criminal & civil background check (Promise Camp provides).
• Being at least 15 years of age.
• Having a positive upbeat attitude toward other staff and the youth who are served.
• The willingness to have a broken up daily schedule.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

• Dedicate each day to God through prayer, and rely upon God's strength and leading throughout each day of camp.
• Work with fellow staff and campers to establish relationships that honor Jesus. Work cooperatively with and under the direction of the Head Cook, ultimately following their lead.
• Participate in the Promise Camp orientation and training. Follow camp policies, training, and instruction.
• Abide by safe food handling practices as dictated by the Head Cook.
• Help to prepare all meals. This may mean early mornings to prepare breakfast.
• Help to serve all meals. The meals are served family style and the kitchen crew acts as facilitators and servants to the campers and staff.
• Help to clean up after all meals.
• Help to keep the kitchen, serving, and dining areas clean.
• Other occasional duties as assigned by the Head Cook.

Essential Functions:

• Able to lift/unload/move food and supplies up to 40#
• Able to lift dishes to storage location
• Able to use kitchen equipment safely
• Able to safely operate electrical and mechanical equipment
• Able to maintain appropriate inventory of food and supplies
• Able to operate dishwasher while maintaining appropriate temperature
• Able to determine cleanliness of dishes, food-contact surfaces, and kitchen areas
• Able to assess condition and safety of food
