Summer Camp Nursing Assistant

Promise Camp is a highly relational Christ-centered residential summer camp.  Campers range between 7 and 17 years of age and are frequently from unchurched, single-parent families, and from various cultural backgrounds. The camp program is divided into 6 one-week sessions.   Family Guidance offers ten days of onsite paid training as well as supervision and assistance throughout the camp.

Position Summary:  The Nursing Assistant works directly with the Camp R.N. to assist in all aspects of medical care related to the campers and the staff.  This includes helping with receiving and documenting medications, medication passes, first aid, and other medical related activities.   The nursing assistant will also be trained in lifeguarding, CPR, and AED and will assist with such duties at the swimming pool.

 

The Position Requires:

  • A devoted relationship and mature walk with Jesus Christ.
  • Enrollment or completion of some medically related degree program.
  • Satisfactory criminal & civil background check (Promise Camp provides).
  • Being at least 18 years of age.

 

This Position Also Requires Strong Relational Skills Including:

  • Ability to connect with, encourage, challenge, direct and redirect at-risk youth.
  • Being a strong role model.
  • Possessing proven conflict resolution skills.
  • Having a positive upbeat attitude toward other staff and the youth who are served.

 

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Participate in the Promise Camp orientation and training. Participate in all staff meetings. Be on time for all camp activities.
  • Dedicate each day to God through prayer, and rely upon God's strength and leading throughout each day of camp.
  • Follow camp policies, training, and instruction.
  • Possess or being willing & able to receive certification for lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, and AED.
  • Be able to assess non-emergent and emergent health care scenarios and respond appropriately.
  • Maintain HIPAA in regard to documentation, patient care, and general communication.
  • Have general understanding and education to medication administration and basic pharmacology.
  • Maintain compassionate, ethical, safe patient care.
  • Step in as a back-up counselor when one becomes ill or needs a break for some reason.

 

Essential Functions:

Able to assist campers in emergency (fire, injury, etc.); walk several miles in a day; be organized and trustworthy with medicines and medical information; and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
