Promise Camp Retreat Center Facilities Manager

Job SummaryThe Promise Camp & Retreat Center (PCRC) Facilities Manager has overall responsibility for the maintenance of the camp facilities and management of the retreat center aspects of the Promise Camp ministry.  The position is a full-time year-round position with benefits. Housing may be provided at camp as a part of the compensation.   This position requires a calling to ministry as it is more than just a job.  The ideal candidate will want to add to the whole life and ministry of the camp and not just manage and maintain facilities. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Routinely maintain, repair, and clean all buildings, facilities and grounds.
  2. Perform seasonal duties, including but not limited to: weekly grass mowing on days/times campers are not present, daily pool maintenance and chemical testing, weekly pool cleaning when pool is not in use, landscaping and maintenance, winterizing and de-winterizing the water systems annually, maintaining heating and cooling systems and snow removal as necessary
  3. Perform routine cleaning of all buildings before, after, and in-between group usage. Prepare cabins for seasonal use including cleaning, mattress and bunk preparation, screen repair, and pest control.  Minimize use of utilities by adjusting thermostats, lighting and water heaters as appropriate.
  4. Assess needs and perform repairs to the facilities and equipment including roofing and gutters, carpentry, window and screen, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical. Perform immediate maintenance and repair in the event of storm damage, fallen trees, and other hazards.
  5. Maintain all camp vehicles and equipment including trucks, vans, tractors, lawn & garden equipment, chain saws and log splitters, power and hand tools, and other equipment.
  6. Work under the supervision of the Camp Director to secure professional contractors for work that is beyond the scope or size of the PCRC Manager's time and responsibility.
  7. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise summer camp staff in daily cleaning and maintenance duties.
  8. Be willing and capable of being trained and certified in sewage treatment plant and public water system operations and to maintain those systems per state and local laws.
  9. Maintain responsibility for American Camp Association accreditation standards which apply to camp facilities, equipment, vehicles, and retreat center management.
  10. Provide for the safety of the camp and program by maintaining adherence to fire codes and health standards, pest control, and the like as necessary.
  11. Act as compliance coordinator, complying with oversight agencies such as the Department of Health, Agriculture, etc. for site visits and filings. Arranging for and hosting annual inspections of fire extinguishers, fire safety systems, and the like.  Maintain accurate MSDS information for all on-site chemicals.  Maintain safe storage of all chemicals and compounds at the camp.
  12. Oversee volunteer help for the maintenance, repair, and facility improvement projects and maintain a camp calendar/log book of all volunteer activities with dates, names of attendees, and work performed including total hours.
  13. Welcome and acclimate rental groups and serve their needs as appropriate. Serve as their on-call contact should needs or issues arise during their stay.  Walk through the checkout procedure with them to assure that the facilities are left in an acceptable condition.
  14. Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

Fiscal Management:

  1. Manage camp facility costs in accordance with the annual operation budget. Make recommendations regarding the future needs of the camp as they may impact projected future budgets; includes tools, equipment, repair and maintenance, and recommended facility improvements.
  2. Make routine maintenance and repair purchases, not to exceed $500 without Camp Director approval, using petty cash or existing credit relationships. Receipts and expense reports will be maintained and turned in at least monthly.  Purchases which exceed $500 will be approved by the Camp Director in advance.

Qualifications:

  1. Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ and subscribe to the Family Guidance, Inc. mission statement.
  2. Possess well rounded experience and competency in facility maintenance and repair, equipment maintenance and repair, and a general working knowledge and comfort with basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  3. Possess high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  4. Be committed to serve in the capacity as camp manager as ministry and not simply a job. This also requires the complete approval and support of spouse and family.
  5. Possess proven facilities management experience and expertise.
  6. Professionalism including the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, cultures and personalities.
  7. Willingness to learn about camp facilities and equipment and operations and/or functions of each asset.
  8. Possess a valid driver's license and appropriate automobile insurance coverage.
  9. Possessing valid Certified Sewage Treatment Operator's license and pesticide applicator's license is a plus.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   The employee is regularly required to do things such as grass cutting, chain saw operation, and physical labor.  The employee is also required to lift items weighing over 50 pounds and walk long distances around camp property to perform necessary functions.  The employee will also be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl and will also be required to climb ladders and perform work on roofs and elevated structures.  The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, and cold when performing various functions.
