Nurse - Summer Seasonal

Promise Camp is a highly relational Christ-centered residential summer camp in Beaver County.  We are currently seeking an RN for the 2020 summer camp season.  This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in integrating their nursing skills with ministry. Campers range between 7 and 17 years of age and are frequently from unchurched, single-parent families, and from various cultural backgrounds. The camp program is divided into 6 one-week sessions and a leadership development camp which runs concurrently for 2 two-week sessions.   Family Guidance, which operates Promise Camp is the nation's oldest Christian Youth Mentoring Program. 

Position Summary:  The Nurse provides for the medical well-being of campers while they're at camp, which includes collecting, organizing, and dispensing medications, treating all camper and staff medical issues, maintaining treatment and medication logs, and similar nursing functions.    

 Requirements:

• A devoted relationship and mature walk with Jesus Christ.
• Current Pennsylvania state RN certification.
• Being flexible and able to adapt to different environments and schedules and enjoying an active lifestyle.
• Confidence in nursing skills.
• Good bedside manner, being friendly and personable toward the campers and staff who are served.
• Prior experience with children (does not have to be in a medical capacity).
• ER and/or pediatric unit experience preferred, but not required.
• Pennsylvania Act 33 and 34 background clearances.
• Being at least 21 years of age.

 Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

• Be present at all pickup bus stop locations to collect medical forms, assure their completion and accuracy, and to collect, label, and transport to camp all camper medications.
• Dispense medications to campers and staff according to regularly prescribed times and methods.
• Perform first aid for minor injuries.
• Perform weekly health checks for all campers.
• Communicate specific camper health needs (allergies, special diets) to staff.
• Maintain all appropriate records and documentation including those for medications dispensed and wounds and/or injuries treated.
• Act as liaison between the camp and local doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies.
• Bag, label, and return medications to campers upon their departure.
• Communicate with parents as necessary.
• Maintain first-aid kits and recommend purchases for camp medical supply stock.
• Clean and maintain the nurse's station daily.
• Be present each day at camp throughout the day.

Family Guidance offers 13 days of onsite paid training as well as supervision and assistance throughout Promise Camp.  Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a resume with their application.
