Mentoring Supervisor

The One2One Mentoring Supervisor will work with individuals, churches, schools and facilities to manage mentoring programs as we train, match, and consistently supervise adult volunteers in their mentoring matches with at-risk youth.  This position may also provide support to the parent(s) of the children we match, including encouragement, providing information and making referrals as needed.

General Requirements:

  • A mature walk with Jesus Christ
  • Strong Moral Character
  • Clearances including, but not limited to criminal, child abuse, driving and fingerprinting
  • Experience in youth mentoring or related child services
  • Commitment to ongoing recruiting, training, administration and supervision
  • Reliable vehicle necessary for travel
  • Ability to work a schedule that has various hours, including nights and weekends

Required Skill Set:

  • Strong Relational Skills
  • Mentoring Expertise: A mentoring supervisor should have the ability to understand the relational dynamics involved in the mentoring process.  He/she will demonstrate the ability to personally connect with, encourage, exhort, assess, teach, train and direct adult volunteers.
  • Compassion: Ability to understand with compassion, the needs of today's at-risk youth and their families. This includes understanding the potential impact of fatherlessness, high-crime neighborhoods, and poverty upon the development of youth.
  • Patience: Strong commitment to support each mentoring match with patience and investing in the long-term growth of the mentoring match
  • Teamwork: Ability to work as a team player, as well as receive and implement supervisory guidance.
  • Strong Organizational Skills:
  • Consistent Follow-Through: Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and consistently with volunteers, families and supervisor to maintain regular match stability.
  • Focus: Demonstrated ability to stay on-task, and pursue completion of necessary tasks and projects, with determination.
  • Administration: Proficiency in necessary administrative processes
  • Assessment of Relationships: Ability to identify potential problem areas in mentoring relationships, develop plans to rectify these problem areas with the assistance of one's supervisor, and implement such plan
  • Mission And Vision: Ability to articulate the mission and model of the program and distinguish it from other approaches to mentoring.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide Training, Complete Supervision and Oversight of Mentoring Relationships:
    • Recruit: Make presentations to churches regarding the mentoring program and the need for volunteers.
    • Screen Mentors: Discern an individual's qualifications for mentoring through the screening, orientation, and matching process.
    • Equip Mentors: Train mentors to fully prepare them for their mentoring matches with at-risk youth. 
    • Select Match: Choose the best possible match between mentor and child.
    • Facilitate Match: Introduce the mentor and child and set healthy boundaries for the match
    • Support Match: Maintain regular and consistent contact with each volunteer. Provide encouragement, and counsel to the mentors.
    • Guide Match: Provide guidance and a smooth transition for mentoring matches during difficult periods, such as crisis situations or closing.
    • Serve Family: Maintain regular and consistent contact with the child's parent(s)/caregiver(s), as necessary.  Function as a liaison between the parent/caregiver and mentor as needed.
    • Document: Complete all documentation regarding mentor processing and match progress.
    • Events: Participate in Family Guidance events

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Must have a valid driver's license, vehicle, and appropriate insurance coverage for travel. This position requires frequent driving.

  • The ability to concentrate for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and graciously over the phone, in person and in writing.
  • The ability to analyze and creatively approach tasks to offer insight and new ideas.

  • Sit at a desk for extended periods of time.
  • Use fine motor skills to type, organize, and maintain mentor database and files.
  • Spend extended periods of time in front of a computer screen.

  • Ability to drive safely

  • Various neighborhoods.
