Camp Director

Overseeing all areas of the Promise Camp and Retreat Center (PCRC) program and facilities while residing on the property, the Camp Director is responsible for ministering the love and truth of God through Jesus Christ to children and youth directly and through staff, volunteers, and partnerships.  This position requires the ability to effectively come alongside churches and other community organizations, as well as a solid grasp of relational programming.  The Camp Director will possess excellent communication skills, supervision skills, and a solid background and understanding of both urban and non-urban children and families who are at risk.  The ability to work as a member of a team and as a leader is essential.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Conceive and communicate a compelling vision for Promise Camp and Retreat Center.
  2. Recruit and establish church and parachurch partnerships in strategic communities.
  3. Recruit, hire, train, supervise and lead all camp staff.
  4. Oversee the development of the entire camp program, including theme, messages, games, activities, skits, music, events, meals, etc. Plan all programming and assign tasks as appropriate.
  5. Strive toward a balanced, diverse camp attendance and implement appropriate and effective camper recruitment strategies to attain yearly targets.
  6. Oversee all camp activities and ensure that positive and Christ-like relationships are developed through them.
  7. Oversee Registrar in all aspects of camper registration.
  8. Oversee Facilities Manager in all aspects of facilities care, maintenance, construction, and cleaning.
  9. Maximize the use of the camp facilities through aggressive marketing and rental of camp facilities by outside groups to meet yearly revenue targets.
  10. Ensure that all documentation and evaluations are complete.
  11. Maintain compliance with American Camp Association accreditation standards and coordinate all visits and communication.
  12. Execute the yearly PCRC budget with appropriate financial management strategies.
  13. In cooperation with the Executive Director, manage PCRC site and facility development in accordance with the master site plan.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Adherence to Gospel values
  2. Strong moral character including conscientiousness and dependability
  3. A passion for reaching, serving, and discipling the lost, as well as to grow leaders who can do the same
  4. Successful experience in staff and volunteer hiring, supervision, training and equipping
  5. Expertise in camp and retreat ministries, programming, oversight, and administration
  6. Proven ability to manage a budget and exercise financial responsibility
  7. A commitment to regular and ongoing participation in prayer, teamwork, and the supervisory process
  8. Background checks including but not limited to Act 33/34 clearances
  9. Strong references
  10. Bachelor's degree with five relevant years of experience

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Valid driver's license and appropriate insurance coverage.  Work toward American Camp Association accreditation and other appropriate ACA certifications.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   The employee may be regularly required to do things such as grass cutting, chain saw operation, and physical labor.  The employee is also required to lift items weighing over 50 pounds and walk long distances around camp property to perform necessary functions.  The employee will also be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl and will also be required to climb ladders and perform work on roofs and elevated structures.  The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, and cold when performing various functions. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include:

  • Close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus when driving and when walking throughout the camp property;
  • Close vision for computer and paper detail work;
  • Color vision when creating or reviewing graphs and color-coded spreadsheets or documents;
  • Distance vision when leading training or supervising camp activities.

  • Outdoor weather during camp, retreats, and the regular course of duties.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate because it is an open office setting with business machines operating, phones ringing, and people talking. The employee may be exposed to loud noise when driving to external sites or while in a store or at camp.
